Jon's Online Suicide Diary

On Set

Jons Online Suicide Diary was produced as part of the Digital Guerillas competition at NextFest 2001 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The entire video was shot in a grueling 24-hour period, in the director's basement, then edited later that night in order to be screened at 9pm on the following day. That's right - we picked up the gear at 8:30 pm Wednesday and screened the show 9pm Friday!

Gloria Stefanson, our production designer, and Teri Armitage did a wonderful job of trashing the basement to become the home of Jon and Alison.

As a side note, Jon's Online Suicide diary is based, in part, on episodes of John Thronberg's life where he stayed up for eight days straight, as related to Teri Armitage by Torin Stefanson. However, John was still conscious long enough to shoot this short.

Collin Semenoff actually sucked up - and swallowed - coffee grounds in this shot. Multiple times.

Digital Guerillas

This filmmaking competition challenged the participants to shoot and edit a short digital video in 48 consecutive hours - 24 hours to shoot and 24 hours to edit - during the week of the Nextfest 2001 Digital Film Festival. The filmmaking teams worked closely with Director Mentors. We were fortunate enough to have Gary Burns (waydowntown) as our mentor. The completed films were then screened Friday Night at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon.
